As early as the second minute The LightShop Hotsticks were awarded a penalty corner and Andrew Camilleri cleared off the dead ball line with the Young Stars keeper beaten. The game was played in a high tempo with play ebbing and flowing from end to end, Hotsticks missing a goal scoring opportunity on 13 minutes. John Camilleri hit the Young Stars’ cross bar in the 19th minute but it was Young stars who drew first blood when Ivan Magro Dingli deflected a pass from outside the D into the net to send his team 1 – 0 up. The lead was short lived as just a minute later Jonathan Borg netted to level at 1 – 1. The half time whistle sounded with the score remaining unchanged.
Young Stars regained the lead in the 39th minute when, as a result of a penalty corner action, Mark Camilleri picked his spot to put his team 2 – 1 ahead. Hotsticks’ keeper Ludwig Cole then kept his side in the contest with a diving save in the 43rd minute. Four minutes later Hotsticks were then awarded a penalty stroke but Jonathan Borg hit the post with his effort. After an exchange of penalty corners around the 50 minute mark, Hotsticks were awarded a second penalty stroke but Lukas Plaehn failed to convert. Within a couple of minutes Borg scored his second goal when he hit a tremendous first time effort meeting a cross from the left flank. In the 67th minute Borg completed his hat trick pushing home after a prolonged penalty corner action to give The LightShop Hotsticks a 3 – 2 victory in a hard fought encounter.
