Hotsticks’ fine run comes to a halt

December 14th, 2015 | Posted by Keith in Senior Team - (0 Comments)

Both teams started this game at a gallop, intent on scoring early to gain psychological advantage. Hotsticks did not avail themselves of two penalty corner awards in the first ten minutes being denied by James Mizzi the Young Stars keeper. On twelve minutes Emile Borg prevented Mark Camilleri shooting Young Stars ahead and three minutes later he kept his team’s goal intact, affecting a blinding save. The game developed into a skilful affair with Hotsticks dominating possession and exerting considerable pressure while Young Stars always looked dangerous on the counter attack. On 25 minutes Young Stars forged ahead when Camilleri hit home as a result of a penalty corner action. Hotsticks reacted strongly but did not convert their pressure into goals not being able to exploit several inviting crosses which they created down the flanks. Young Stars held on to their 1–0 lead at half time.

The second half continued in the same vein and on their third penalty corner award, between the 42nd and 46th minute, Steve Portelli netted to level the score at 1–1. Ludolf Rasterhoff then missed a chance to shoot Hotsticks ahead in the 50th minute. Young Stars failed to score from a series of three penalty corners on 55 mintues again being denied by Borg’s prowess in the Hotsticks goal. Now played at a frantic pace with nerves becoming jangled, Hotsticks strove to seal yet another victory this season but Young Stars played out time, the final whistle blowing with the game ending in 1–1 draw.

Season Opens With Epic Score

December 7th, 2015 | Posted by Keith in Senior Team - (0 Comments)

After scoring seven goals in their last two outings, and losing narrowly by one goal on each occasion, one could not envisage White Hart’s performance in their first league encounter. After a studious start by both teams with White Hart missing a couple of early chances, around the 12th minute, Hotsticks started exerting pressure and were awarded three penalty corners in as many minutes. In the 20th minute Steve Portelli shot home to send them into a 1–0 lead. Ludolf Rasterhoff netted a beauty two minutes later and on 25 minutes Portelli grabbed his second and Hotsticks’ third, a lead which they held comfortably until the end of the first half.

Early in the second half John Camilleri scored to send Hotsticks 4–0 up and in the 47th minute Rasterhoff netted his second and his team’s fifth. On 55 minutes Portelli increased the score to 6–0 as a result of a penalty corner action. Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke in the 58th minute and Alessandro Amore calmly stroked the ball into the bottom corner to register Hotsticks’ seventh goal. There was still enough time for Camilleri to score number eight with Julian Zahra grabbing a ninth three minutes from time to give Hotsticks an easy victory.

HAM Fund-Raising Event

December 4th, 2015 | Posted by Keith in General - (0 Comments)

11046356_855090364590185_8041142730929156483_nIn line with its support of the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF), the Hockey Association Malta (HAM) organised a fund-raising event to generate financial support for this noble cause.

The event was integrated in the “Solidarity through Sports” Campaign; and took place on the 28th November 2015 for Juniors and the 29th November 2015 for seniors at the National Hockey Centre, in Corradino.

The event took the form of a Hockey Festival comprising a tournament based on Hockey Five Rules.
Donations were solicited from all the participants as well as from the attending spectators; with the latter surely enhancing the overall proceeds generated by the fundraising event.

All the participants will did their utmost to win the platonic “title” associated with this event; but all in a healthy and friendly competitive spirit. A keen tussle evolved throughout. It was not about winning or losing; it is all about taking an active part and having fun!

The MCCF thanks the HAM’s Executive Committee for its valid support and looks forward to the further development of the existing synergy between the two organisations.

A special mention goes to Hotsticks’ Luke Mallia who worked so hard to bring all this together.
